When a child turns 18, parents need to be aware of the following privacy rights:

1. They will not be able to make legal decisions on their child's behalf.

2. They will lose the ability to access their child's health, education, or financial records.

3. If the child is incapable of making decisions on their own, parents will be barred from making them on their behalf.

4. Under FERPA, students age 18 or older must provide written consent before education records can be shared with parents
