Our Story

Hi, I’m Samantha Harrykissoon. Over the past 15 years, I’ve worn many hats—policy analyst, lawyer, strategic communicator, and project manager—working in public health, financial planning, and government affairs. But beyond the professional titles, my journey has been shaped most deeply by life itself.

Not long ago, I lost my beloved spouse. That loss changed me in ways I’m still discovering. Grief has been a powerful teacher—it’s shown me how precious connection is, how important it is to be fully present, and how much strength can be found in vulnerability.

 

Grief is a winding, often silent road—and alongside the emotional weight, I faced an overwhelming web of administrative burdens that no one prepares you for.

I found myself navigating complex systems while still in shock—closing bank accounts, filing endless paperwork, managing estate issues, updating legal documents, dealing with insurance claims, and making difficult financial decisions alone. Each phone call felt like a fresh wound, each form a reminder of what I had lost. It wasn’t just exhausting—it was deeply lonely and often confusing. I realized how little support there is for the administrative side of death, especially when you're barely able to get through the day.

Even in the hardest moments, I hold onto kindness, resilience, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life. I find joy in simple things: a walk in nature, a warm cup of coffee, deep conversations, and discovering new places.

I created GoldStar as part of my healing, as a way to rebuild while honoring the love and lessons of the past. It’s a space where I can share, connect, and move forward—with hope, honesty, and an open heart.
